WSRHA BRIEF HISTORY

The Western Slope Reining Horse Association (“WSRHA”) is a proud affiliate of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA). The NRHA is a worldwide organization dedicated to the promotion of the reining horse in a fun-filled family atmosphere. The NRHA boasts a membership of nearly 15,000, including more than 1,400 youth members that participate in more than 1,200 NRHA approved show and Entry Level Reining events. (Check out www.nrha.com)

WSRHA was organized as a not-for-profit corporation for the benefit of its members and the local economy. Its primary purpose was and still is to provide a Western Slope venue for reiners throughout Colorado and neighboring states to show their horses and support other horse related groups. The WSRHA affiliate was formed with the help of the Front Range affiliate, Rocky Mountain Reining Horse Association-RMRHA, and the staff at NRHA.

In the early 1990's, a group of 20 reiners headed by Caesar and Carol Dotta, filed the first set of by-laws with NRHA. The WSRHA hosted its first large horse show, the Rocky Mountain Regional Affiliate Finals, in Grand Junction in 1996. This was a very successful start and brought lots of riders and horses to Grand Junction for the 4 day event. In 1999, the affiliate started its own three circuit show and has continued this venue ever since. Each show lasts 3-5 days and is held on the Western Slope. The annual WSRHA Affiliate Circuit shows now qualify rider and their horses for the Regional Affiliate Finals held in the Mountain Region, where riders can qualify for the North American Affiliate Championships held every fall in Oklahoma City. WSRHA members have even won this prestigious event!

To help guide the organization now and for the future, WSRHA is led by elected Officers, and Board of Directors with committees seated as needed such as: Show, Awards, Sponsorships, and Youth
