The Western Slope Reining Horse Association youth group (Western Slope Sliders) is a group of youth dedicated to promoting more youth involvement in reining at a local, regional and national level. The “Sliders” want to insure that our youth reiners grow by becoming involved in the WSRHA club pitching in wherever and whenever they can and by participating heavily in community service. We believe this type of service grows character and an overall stronger future for our unique sport of reining.
In our first year of organization, the sliders have put on a successful judging clinic, held one Calcutta in the spring and another at our fall show, and we will also put on a youth freestyle. We have made enough money through these fundraisers to purchase extra awards, pay any expenses that we have had, and promote our scholarship program.
The WSRHA scholarship program is also in its first year of implementation. It is a unique program whereby the youth perform activities to receive points from January – October. At the end of the year, whoever has the most points in the 14-18 age group receives a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.00. The second place youth in this age group receives a $500.00 scholarship. The 13 and under age group high point person receives a pair of custom made chaps and the second place youth receives a custom headstall. As you can see, the Western Slope Sliders are busy!! We are excited about our program and group and look forward to many successful years.
